Transportation Planning

The Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments (COG) helps local governments in Franklin, Granville, Person, Vance and Warren counties assess their transportation needs and secure funding to meet them.

As the state-designated Rural Transportation Planning Organization (RPO) for North Carolina’s Region K, the COG works with local governments and the state Department of Transportation (NC-DOT) to:

• Develop and prioritize transportation projects to recommend for inclusion in the State Transportation Improvement Plan.
• Provide transportation-related information and a forum for public participation in the rural transportation planning process.
• Conduct transportation-related studies and facilitate improved communication among the Kerr-Tar RPO, NC-DOT, other RPOs, Metropolitan Transportation Organizations (MPOs) and state agencies.
• Undertake transportation-related tasks that enhance transportation system development, coordination and efficiency while preserving the area’s natural resources.
• Collaborative with agencies beyond the region to improve services that cross regional boundaries.
• Collaborate on regional legislative issues to ensure the region and its member counties and municipalities are well-served.
